Department Description

The Department of Biological Sciences offers broad undergraduate preparation in the foundational concepts and principles of the life sciences with an emphasis on scientific discovery and research. Our students are prepared for a wide variety of life science careers and continue onto professional programs in the medical sciences, as well as wildlife and conservation science. It is important for students to consult frequently with their advisers regarding the proper courses related to their special interests. In addition, students should correspond early with professional or graduate schools to make sure they satisfy specific requirements.

Curricula for secondary school biological sciences education, comprehensive science education, environmental studies, traditional course sequences, and pre-professional programs are available in the department. Graduate work in biology is offered at the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy levels.
