WGS 426. Women in American History. 3 Credits.

A survey of political, social, economic, and cultural development of American women from colonial times to the present with a focus on the lived experiences of diverse groups of women. Central themes are: the incongruity of ideal and reality, the fluidity of gender expectations and the "public" sphere, women's ability to navigate different power structures successfully, work and sexual division of labor, and the role family and personal life.
